Team Lead

We’re looking for a Team Lead with a track record of leading teams through daily freight operations — someone who delegates well, coaches their team to own the work, and has the instincts to catch a potential fire long before it starts. Expert-level pricing knowledge is a must. This role exists because White Star Logistics is scaling, and we need someone who can absorb the daily pressure of keeping freight moving, stepping in personally when the team needs it most, so the rest of the business can grow.

What We’re Looking For

Required

  • 4+ years of experience in freight brokerage or 3PL truckload operations
  • Minimum 3+ years managing a team, with a demonstrated ability to lead and delegate rather than do it all yourself
  • Hands-on experience booking loads, sourcing carriers, and securing day-of coverage under time pressure
  • Track record of making independent, real-time decisions on cost and service tradeoffs — escalating only when it truly matters
  • A proven ability to spot potential problems — service failures, compliance gaps, margin leakage — before they become fires
  • Expert-level knowledge of freight pricing, including margin management, accessorials, detention, and claims resolution
  • Experience managing carrier relationships, including rate negotiation and holding carriers accountable to compliance standards
  • Experience leading, coaching, or mentoring an operations team in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience with carrier vetting through Highway, Carrier 411, FMCSA

What You’ll Do

  • Own day-to-day execution across truckload booking loads, sourcing carriers, and securing coverage when the board gets tight
  • Lead pre-planning and load filtering to catch problems before they become service failures, making coverage, cost, and service tradeoffs independently
  • Enforce margin discipline on every move — reviewing carrier rates, accessorials, and detention, and correcting margin leakage as soon as you spot it
  • Manage carrier relationships and compliance, resolving POD issues, missed appointments, and claims while protecting long-term partnerships
  • Step in personally during peak volume, late coverage, or service failures, and monitor live freight to resolve issues in real time
  • Coach the operations team through live issues and high-stress moments, setting the standard for urgency, accuracy, and ownership
  • Balance hands-on execution with delegation as team workload shifts day to day
